Says the lead character as a child to himself when he gets a chance to see his future. But will he live his future according to his will?

1. Apocalypse and Grief

The movie starts with showing that California is sinking, Earth is shattered, there are bill boards everywhere ” 39 glorious years of Chuck” . ” Thank you, Chuck” . Everyone wonders, who is this person Chuck and how is the universe ending linked to CHUCK? Because, the universe falls apart , Bigbang shows up, yet the universe thanks CHUCK. Who is he?

You might wonder why characters in the first act , show weird confused expressions. The ending and final act sums up the multitudes.

2. I will my life until my life runs out yet I became an accountant

Chuck, played by Tom Hiddleston , who wanted to live his life to the fullest, becomes an accountant. He comes across a street drum player who brings the nostalgia of Chuck’s past. He wanted to be a dancer, but couldn’t somehow live up to the dreams. ( Family, Marriage might push him). The iconic dance sequence on the street comes as a surprise. It doesn’t only excite the viewers, but also the audience alike. He lived there for a moment. But he couldn’t stay there for more time.

3. Young Boy. Fresh love. New lessons and own world

He used to live with his grandparents in their victoria themed house. The house has its own secrets. Mark Hamil doesn’t want us to show any, until he gets drunk one night and says it all.

As a young boy, Chuck falls for an older girl in his dance class. Their chemistry is great but just like everything else this is temporary too.

Chuck’s real universe starts falling all at once, his close people start to leave, he becomes alone and decides to live his life to the fullest when he sees the vision of his future, lying on a hospital bed unconscious nearing death.

So, Chuck starts imagining things in his brain, creating a universe where everyone, everything falls apart when he leaves from earth.

The first act is imagination.

The second act is his life after adulthood.

The third act is his childhood which made him build the universe.

It’s one the saddest, tragic films which doesn’t get sadder at any level, yet shows the emotional depth in every act. The hope he had as a kid shattered. The Life he had as an adult ended. Even if you see your fate, you can’t change the way you end it.

When Math enters love, will love win?

Lucy(Dakota Johnson),A matchmaker who is also a failed screen actress , acts as a matchmaker to her clients. She meets a person, Harry(Pedro Pascal) in one of the weddings , lucy sets. Harry seems interested in Lucy and talks with her in the wedding. She shares her insights about love, dating(that’s where the famous quote comes). Impressed by lucy ‘s words, Harry offers a date with him. In the same party, lucy comes across the caterer, John (Chris Evans) who is also lucy’s ex boy friend.

Love and Math :(spoilers ahead)

Lucy:

Lucy is that kind of person who calculates everything. She needs rich handsome tall men to settle down. Her calculations make her fall for Harry. But once her calculations go wrong, both personally and professionally, she rethinks her Math.

Harry:

Harry, the charming rich handsome guy who is not new to the marriage market. He gets inspired by Lucy’s words and wants to marry her. Harry who used to be 5 feet 8 inches, becomes taller by surgery. He believes his confidence comes from his height. When his calculations go wrong with lucy, he rethinks his math too!

John:

John on the other hand, is a theatre actor, living with roommates in his 37s, a broken yet future driven person. He gets dumped by Lucy as he is poor yet John loves lucy and talks with her whenever she needs him. John believes his acting career will bloom once he gets right chord but when his reality questions him, John rethinks his career and believes in Math too!

Final take :

I’ve not seen a  beautiful yet thought-provoking drama like materialists in recent times. This film doesn’t only ask you to get married but shows a global audience that being lonely isn’t a crime. Asking for matchmaking guidance doesn’t make you weak. This film also makes you rethink your current calculations and your urge to get married. The drama is perfect and the dialogues were noteworthy! Watch it.
